On January 5, 2024, U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman granted Co-Lead Counsel Hoppin Grinsell’s motion to serve a DAO defendant via the DAO’s online discussion forum in the Bancor Cryptocurrency Class Action, Basic v. B Protocol, Case No. 23-cv-00533-RP (W.D. Tex.). Judge Pitman’s Order—issued less than twenty-four hours after Hoppin Grinsell filed its Motion for Alternative Service—breaks new ground and joins a small but growing number of District Courts nationwide that have permitted plaintiffs seeking recovery from DAO defendants to serve them online.
